Today, Sunday, we left our hotel in Puebla, here in Mexico, and we tested the resistance of the new PEUGEOT LANDTREK on an off-road route towards the Popocatépetl volcano – one of the most active volcanoes in Mexico and one of the most dangerous in the world.

The Popocatepetl, also known as “Popo” is one of the two most active volcanoes, and therefore, the most monitored in Mexico. It is located between the states of Puebla, the State of Mexico and Morelos. And it is considered one of the 10 most dangerous volcanoes in Latin America since a major eruption of it could affect some 25 million people. Incredible, right?

The interesting thing is that the road we took is also the route of many cyclists in their weekend training. We came across hundreds of them.

We stopped to take pictures at a cornfield with the volcano, with its 5,452 meters high, in the background and soon we were able to witness the first small eruption that threw smoke hundreds of meters above the mouth of the volcano.

An indescribable feeling to be so close to a volcano in full activity!

We continued our journey, and soon the asphalt gave up space to a charming dirt road full of erosions and stones, suitable for our traveling companions, the new PEUGEOT LANDTREK, which easily drove up the tortuous path. It is really a multifunctional, durable and reliable on all terrains and the perfect ally for enjoying outdoor leisure.

We left from 2,200m in altitude and reached 3,700m, the highest point of the road. Without feeling any effect from the altitude, the powerful engines of the PEUGEOT LANDTREK showed excellent performance and a lot of safety on the steep slopes of this road.

Arriving at the base of the Popocatépetl volcano we had time to photograph, record videos and once again, we were able to witness a small eruption that again expelled tons of dust up. Fantastic!

At the base of the volcano, there is a state police station with a small museum of the volcano, but it was closed due to COVID-19. There too, we came across some stalls selling snacks and typical foods. As it is Sunday, people go there to admire the landscapes and go hiking.

Once again, the weather collaborated a lot, because after we recorded incredible moments, many clouds covered the volcano. And as we still had to drive 300 km to the next city, we made a quick stop for a snack and took the road towards our last destination here in Mexico: Veracruz.

The weather became overcast, we got a lot of fog and a little rain on the long descent of the mountains, because the road, that is on average at 2,500m of altitude, goes down to sea level in just a little over 50 km! We continued very carefully due to the climatic conditions and at dusk, we arrived in Veracruz.

Veracruz is the most important port in Mexico, but it is also a tourist town and very well groomed, with a beautiful seaside avenue, several restaurants and bars, as well as hotels and casinos.

Tomorrow it will be customers’ turn to try the new PEUGEOT LANDTREK.

The adventure is not over yet, tomorrow there is more.

See you!
